The North Cambridge Terraces

The North Cambridge Terraces are an area of older abandoned River Terraces of the River Cam between the Cam Valley, the Fen Edge and the Isle of Ely. There are also patches of Glacio-fluvial Deposits, Oadby Glacial Till and Alluvium. It is underlain by Jurassic Kimmeridge Clay and Ampthill Clay to the north and by Cretaceous Woburn Sands and Gault Clay to the south. The elevation of this area is typically between 10 and 20m OD. The soils are poorly drained on bedrock clay and well-drained on Terrace Gravels.

There are two geological SSSI, Histon Road and Travellers’ Rest Pit, both in Cambridge, but no LGS.
