The Swavesey Apron
The Swavesey Apron is a ribbon of land that runs along the edge of the Western Plateau and borders the Great Ouse Valley, the North Cambridge Terraces and the Cam Valley. To the north it is underlain by the Jurassic Clays, but to the east the bedrock geology changes to Gault Clay and West Melbury Marly Chalk. The elevation is typically in the range 20 to 50m OD and clay-rich soils are often poorly drained. There are patches of River Terrace Deposits, Alluvium and outliers of Glacio-fluvial Deposits and Oadby Till.
There are no geological SSSI or LGS. Coton Countryside Reserve (Cambridge Past Present and Future) is on the Gault Clay to the west of Cambridge
