Geo-East
Geo-East was set up in 2008 using EU funds from the European Landscape Convention via Natural England and attracted grants that were given to societies undertaking geo-conservation projects in the region. Geo-East then strengthened its role as a forum for amateur geological societies active in the East of England by organising seminars, field excursions and three conferences. All meetings were very well attended. Geo-East helped build good reciprocal relations between the county groups. There is now less need for such a forum and Geo-East no longer (after 2024) continues as an independent organisation, although the partner organisations continue to liaise for mutual benefit when needed.
Additional information from the original Geo-East website, describing the region’s geodiversity, will gradually be added to this webpage. This includes information from the Chalk East project and Places of geological interest to visit in the Eastern Counties.
